Longacre PTA congratulates the Longacre FIRST LEGO League for an amazing season!
This season we had three FLL teams compete at a qualifying tournament. The Rubber Duckies, Thunderbots, and Spot Botz. The Rubber Duckies brought home a Judge’s Award for their challenge project at Robocat Rumble at Oxford High School in November. The Spot Botz were awarded the Presentation Award at ThunderQuest at Henry Ford II High School in Sterling Heights. They also qualified to compete at the States championship at Bloomfield Hills High School on December 17, where they brought home Second Place for Gracious Professionalism. This is a high honor and we’re so proud to see how our Leader in Me program has helped these kids understand how to be kind and considerate competitors and better citizens of the world.
All three teams made us incredibly proud. This is a challenging sport that combines robotics with scientific research and innovation as well as an emphasis on learning how to be a good citizen to your team and community.
We look forward to hosting a series of skill building workshops in the spring - look for those dates to come out sometimes in mid-winter. We will welcome all interested parties: current FLL members as well as rookie 3rd, 4th, or 5th graders.
We will be hosting an FLL Coach meeting on January 17 at 7 pm in the Longacre cafeteria. All current coaches/mentors and interested future coaches/mentors are highly encouraged to attend as we will be discussing “lessons learned” as well as planning on how to improve the program for the next challenge season.
